Miss ribs but want to stay plant-based?  Check out this amazing option that is homemade, packed with flavor, and texture. 

INGREDIENTS:  – Mushrooms – Oil – Vital wheat gluten – Spices – Broth – Peanut butter) – Soy sauce – Liquid smoke – Tomato paste – BBQ sauce

STEP 1: 

Star by cooking down the mushrooms in a pan with your preferred oil.  This takes 5 to 8 minutes, stirring regularly. 

STEP 2: 

In a blender, add the mushrooms, broth, peanut butter, soy sauce, liquid smoke, and tomato paste. Pulse until smooth.

STEP 3: 

Combine the dry vital wheat gluten and spices with the mushroom mixture until a sticky dough forms. 

STEP 4: 

Bake the dough as directed, then cut into 1" wide strips that resemble ribs.  Don't cut all the way through the dough.

STEP 5: 

Brush the ribs with barbecue sauce then grill for 3 to 4 minutes per side until caramelized. 

Serve the ribs with more barbecue sauce for dipping and all of your favorite vegan side dishes at your next weekend barbecue.
