Say hello to your new favourite guilt free raw vegan dessert!! These vegan brownies are amazing!! and take minutes to make in the food processor! Chocolatey, nutty brownie bites your whole family will love! And they’re healthy too with no refined sugar!! Go crazy guys and dig in!!

I first made this recipe back in March and am just now getting around to sharing them!!

My family are huge brownie lovers. So when I can create a plant based healthy version that isn’t laden with sugar and butter and taste every bit as good, and there’s no baking involved! then I’m definitely a happy camper! These raw chocolate brownies are a win win !

How to make Raw Vegan Brownies:

Add dates to a bowl and cover with boiling water for five minutes, this softens the dates. Drain and set aside

While dates are softening add the pecans, almonds, sesame seeds, salt and instant coffee to the food processor. Process until completely broken down.

Now add the dates and vanilla and process again until the dates are completely blended in.

Lastly mix in the cocoa, stopping to push the mixture around a few times until the cocoa powder is mixed in. This will take a few minutes.

Pour the mixture into a non stick 8x8 brownie pan and spread evenly in the pan with your fingers while pushing down firmly. Place brownies in the freezer to chill while making frosting.

To make the frosting: add coconut oil to a medium microwave safe bowl and melt in the microwave until just melted. Whisk in the rest of the ingredients until smooth. Pour over the brownies. Tilt the pan a little to evenly distribute the icing.

Place uncovered in the fridge for 40-60 minutes until the chocolate frosting has set. Slice and enjoy! Makes 16 bars.

    Description

Raw Vegan Brownies! With dates, cocoa, nuts, easy chocolate frosting. Fudgy, healthy whole food unbaked raw brownie recipe that tastes DELICIOUS! No added sugar, gluten free.

    Ingredients

    Scale

    For Brownies:

    • 1 cup pecans
    • 1 cup whole raw almonds
    • ยผ cup toasted sesame seeds, I buy mine toasted
    • ยฝ teaspoon salt
    • 1 teaspoon instant coffee, regular or decaf
    • 2 cups whole pitted dates
    • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla
    • ยฝ cup cocoa, I like Hershey's 100% natural cacao

    For the frosting:

    • ยฝ cup refined coconut oil
    • ยฝ cup cocoa
    • ยผ cup maple syrup
    • 1 tablespoon smooth peanut butter, I use all natural unsalted
    • ยผ teaspoon pure vanilla extract
    • ยผ teaspoon salt
    • ยผ teaspoon instant coffee, regular or decaf

    Instructions

    1. Add dates to a bowl and cover with boiling water for five minutes, this softens the dates. Drain and set aside
    2. While dates are softening add the pecans, almonds, sesame seeds, salt and instant coffee to the food processor. Process until completely broken down.
    3. Now add the dates and vanilla and process again until the dates are completely blended in.
    4. Lastly mix in the cocoa, stopping to push the mixture around a few times until the cocoa powder is mixed in. This will take a few minutes.
    5. Pour the mixture into a non stick 8x8 brownie pan and spread evenly in the pan with your fingers while pushing down firmly. Place brownies in the freezer to chill while making frosting.
    6. To make the frosting: add coconut oil to a medium microwave safe bowl and melt in the microwave until just melted. Whisk in the rest of the ingredients until smooth. Pour over the brownies. Tilt the pan a little to evenly distribute the icing.
    7. Place uncovered in the fridge for 40-60 minutes until the chocolate frosting has set. Slice and enjoy! Makes 16 bars

    Notes

    • I used regular dates for this recipe rather than medjool dates as they are more budget friendly and just as tasty.  If using medjool dates there is no need to soak them but you might need to add a tablespoon of water or coconut oil if they don't blend properly after adding cocoa.
    • These brownies will keep covered in the fridge for a couple of weeks and freeze great for up to 2 months if wrapped well.
    • the frosting for this recipe is adapted from my Best Vegan Chocolate Bars and Oh She Glows
    • prep time doesn't include chill time

Delicious! Everyone loved them (I made it twice!). I ate mine with some cold walnut milk. I didn't have pecans on hand so I substituted them with walnuts. I also substituted the toasted sesame seeds with chia seeds for a raw and more healthy option; I also substituted the dates and maple syrup with date sugar and agave. The third time I had pecans but no almonds so the walnuts came in place again but this wasn't as satisfying as the first couple times. Still recommend- actually writing this recipe for a friend who requested it.

The problem is that several of these ingredients are now raw. Peanut butter? Roasted sesame seeds> Anything *microwaved*, boiled maple syrup... ! Uncooked maybe but certainly not raw.

These are phenomenal. Simply sublime. I used extra virgin coconut oil and we all love the coconut flavor it brought to the ganache. I also sprinkled toasted coconut on top. Thank you so much. A container of these in the fridge is a happy thing to have on hand for when you want a little pick-me-up of chocolate-y SUPERYUM.

Yes it works without the oil. I use either plant based milk or just water.

Hi Lori, you could try adding a tablespoon of tahini and a handful of pumpkin seeds? or just omit. Enjoy and let me know how the brownies turn out for you ๐Ÿ™‚

Hi Verna, what a great recipe! These brownies are perfect- delicous, healthy, and I donโ€™t have to use the oven in the summer heat. Hereโ€™s my hack- I donโ€™t have instant coffee in the cupboard, so I scrape whatโ€™s stuck in my grinder, a fine powder, and it works just fine.

Can you taste the coffee much? Would it work just as well if you leave it out altogether? Thanks xx

Hi Emma yes you could leave out the coffee but it does add a nice richness to the brownies. I recommend grabbing some for next time. Enjoy!
